This past week in the Illustrator 9-day Challenge. Hoch, our instructor has us working on branding for a hypothetical fitness center. I like challenges with a theme - makes it easier for me to build on the previous ideas, rather than have to think of something new each day. Here are two examples. The yellow circle on the left is a patch for gym attire, I showed it on a ball cap in my Behance project. The image below is working with typography for printed work like a poster, brochures or flyers. Since we were working with textures anyway, I decided to use grunge textures on the sneakers as well as the text. I’ve brushed dirt and scuff marks on the rubber sides and toe caps, tried to show where the canvas tops have holes worn in them. I added a grunge texture over the top to take away that brand new look.
I used stock vector art for the shoes, as I wasn’t able to draw anything even slightly realistic; the black sneakers are from Pixabay, the blue sneakers are from PngImg. Eventually, I may get proficient in Illustrator. It just seems so clunky compared to Photoshop. I suppose its because I’ve used Ps for 20 years, while I’ve only been playing seriously in Ai for 8 months or so.
Take care and stay well.
